Welcome to The Cabell Family Society, Inc.

The Cabell Family Society, Inc. is an association of descendants of Dr. William Cabell and his wife Elizabeth Burks, who emigrated from Frome, Somerset County, England, to Virginia around 1723.
The Society aims to strengthen family ties and deepen knowledge of Dr. Cabell’s family. It actively preserves original family graveyards, documents family history and genealogy, and safeguards important Cabell documents and memorabilia.
Three Cabell cousins—Mary Groesbeck Cabell, Randolph McGuire Cabell, and Mayo Cabell—founded the Society in 1954 as The Cabell Memorial Society to care for the Liberty Hall Graveyard. By 1957, membership had grown to over 100.
As a small family organization, we focus on publishing a quarterly newsletter, hosting an annual meeting, and maintaining graveyards on Dr. Cabell’s original landholdings in and around Nelson County, Virginia.
